The ballet “Aleko” is based on the poem “Gypsy” (1827) by the Russian literary giant Alexander Pushkin.
The music employs an orchestral arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Trio in A Minor,” while the stage backdrops were created by Marc Chagall. These four backdrop paintings left the Ballet Theatre in 1977 and are now displayed as artworks in the “Aleko Hall” of the Aomori Museum of Art.
