Cirque du Soleil’s popular production “Kooza” is returning to Japan for the first time in 16 years. The Tokyo run will open at the Odaiba Big Top in February 2027, and the Osaka run is scheduled to begin in August of the same year.
Since its premiere in 2007, “Kooza” has drawn more than 10 million viewers worldwide and is known for its particularly bold direction—even by Cirque du Soleil standards. When it premiered in Japan in 2011, it attracted approximately 1.21 million viewers, and a revival has been eagerly anticipated ever since.
The title “KOZA” is inspired by the Sanskrit word “KOZA,” meaning “treasure chest.” The story revolves around the innocent protagonist, Innocent.
One day, a large box arrives at Innocent’s doorstep. Out of it emerges a trickster with mysterious powers. Wielding a magic wand, he leads Innocent into the fantastical world of “Kooza.” As Innocent embarks on a journey full of surprises, he encounters a cast of colorful characters, including the King, the Clown, and Mad Dog. What awaits him at the end of this journey…?
Centered on the traditional circus elements of “acrobatic physical expression” and “clowning,” this production blends magnificent stage design, original costumes, and soul-stirring music. Furthermore, the performances woven together by multinational artists and musicians create a truly one-of-a-kind world.
