The Deaflympics, an international sports competition for deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes, will be held in Tokyo from Saturday, November 15 to Wednesday, November 26.
The first Deaflympics was held in Paris, France in 1924. The Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics will mark the 100th anniversary of the event and will be the first Deaflympics to be held in Japan. As the word “Deaf” means “unable to hear,” the athletes will remove their hearing aids and other devices during the games, and everyone will compete from a position of fair hearing loss.
Athletes from 70 to 80 countries will compete in track and field, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, bowling, cycling, soccer, golf, handball, judo, karate, cycling, orienteering, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, wrestling (freestyle), and wrestling (freestyle). At each competition venue, spectators will be able to experience “seeing and feeling sounds” by utilizing universal communication technology.

Visitors can visually enjoy the sounds and realism of the competitions.
