Keigo Higashino’s latest full-length novel in the Galileo series, *Eternal Memory*, will be released by Bungeishunju on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The list price is 2,310 yen (tax included). This marks the first full-length novel in the series in five years and is the author’s 106th book overall.
Kinokuniya Bookstore’s Shinjuku Main Store will also host an event featuring a countdown to mark the moment the book goes on sale at midnight on Wednesday, August 5 (registration is now closed).
Synopsis
The story opens with Kaoru Utsumi, one of the main characters, being stabbed by an elderly man believed to be in his 70s. The elderly man attempts to commit suicide by jumping from a building but fails, and he remains silent throughout the interrogation.
Eventually, a young woman who harbors a grudge against Utsumi emerges as a suspect, though her relationship with the elderly man remains unclear. Meanwhile, Yukawa and Kusanagi use the elderly man’s belongings as clues to unlock a certain mysterious door.
The Series Today
The short story “Burning,” which served as the starting point for the Galileo series, was published in the magazine *All Yomimono* in October 1996. Counting from the release of the book *Detective Galileo*, 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the series’ inception. Cumulative sales of the series to date have exceeded 16.4 million copies.
The series has also made a major impact through its adaptations. The TV drama series starring Masaharu Fukuyama and broadcast on the Fuji TV network recorded a peak viewership rating of 24.7%. The cumulative box office revenue for the three films (*Suspect X’s Sacrifice*, *The Midsummer Equation*, and *Silent Parade*) exceeded 11.2 billion yen.
In 2023, Keigo Higashino surpassed 100 million copies in cumulative domestic sales. That same year, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon. In 2025, a reader poll was conducted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his writing career, and his Naoki Prize-winning novel *The Devotion of Suspect X* took first place.
Following the news of his passing on July 23, messages of condolence poured in from the literary and entertainment worlds, as well as from many fans.
