“Kurashi no Manimani” is a monthly event series held at “Tatami”—a space of approximately 100 tatami mats located on the 4th floor of MoN Takanawa—that reinterprets seasonal events and customs that are gradually being forgotten in modern life.

Tatami mats have always been at the heart of Japanese life. Feeling the changing seasons, savoring seasonal delicacies, and chatting with family on tatami mats—this way of life was imbued with the rich wisdom of living in harmony with the natural flow of the world.
The theme of June’s “Kurashi no Manimani” is “Water.” In the “Tatami” space, where you can forget the hustle and bustle of the city, you can enjoy two experiences that will enrich your rainy season.
Mizuhiki Arrangement Workshop and Japanese Sweets Experience

One option is a 60-minute mizuhiki arrangement workshop. This modern take on the ancient Japanese art of “origata reihou” (the etiquette of folding and presenting paper) involves folding gift envelopes and money wrappers, tying mizuhiki cords, and arranging them beautifully.
The workshop will be led by the “Orikata Etiquette & Mizuhiki Culture Club,” headed by Mieko Ruike. The club incorporates modern sensibilities into “Orikata Etiquette”—a samurai etiquette tradition with over 600 years of history—to propose a mizuhiki culture that is easy to integrate into daily life.

Another option is a Japanese confectionery experience featuring bamboo leaf dumplings delivered by bullet train from Niigata. You can savor the unique flavor of freshly made dumplings, accompanied by the fresh scent of bamboo leaves.
Sasa Dango is available in limited quantities and will end once sold out. We invite you to savor the seasonal flavors accompanied by a refreshing scent reminiscent of a rain shower in early summer.
Since ancient times in Japan, rain has been cherished not merely as something to endure, but as a poetic gift of nature that allows us to feel the changing seasons. Why not experience the Japanese aesthetic sensibility and wisdom of daily life that accompanies the rainy season at “Tatami”?
