The first installment features the grand onnagata dance piece “Kyō-Kashiko Musume Dōjōji”
The first production in this series is the grand onnagata dance piece “Kyō-Kashiko Musume Dōjōji.”
The lead role is played by the 8th Onoe Kikugoro, who assumed his stage name last year and has been attracting significant attention. The performance will depict the transformation of Hanako, a shirabyoshi dancer who appears at the bell memorial service at Dojoji Temple in Kishu, as she evolves from delicate charm to sensual allure and ultimately into madness, through costume changes and a variety of dance styles. Special video footage is also scheduled to be screened.

The lead performer, Kikugoro VIII (Otowaya), plays both male and female roles. He portrays a wide range of characters, from dignified male leads to alluring female roles, successfully balancing the preservation of classical traditions with modern interpretations. Active in both theater and film, he is a figure poised to lead the future of Kabuki.
