MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives, a museum dedicated to the creation and dissemination of Japanese culture, will open at Takanawa Gateway Station on March 28, 2026.
MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives
MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives” is a museum that creates and transmits new Japanese culture through narratives. Twice a year, the museum presents a program that blends Japanese tradition, learning, entertainment, and technology under a “theme” that will lead to the future.
The first letter of the museum’s name, ” MoN,” which translates to “Museum of Stories,” has two meanings: “gate” and “question. The first is the “gate,” which serves as an entrance to connect diverse fields, allowing visitors to encounter unknown worlds and a new sense of self. The other is the desire to be a place where people can ask questions and create the future together.
Programs at MoN Takanawa
MoN Takanawa aims to “develop new content originating from Japan that crosses industries and combines the strengths of both parties,” “expand new business models and networks such as touring and distribution,” and “realize both cultural and economic activities” with the following domestic and international partners.
Shochiku:Creation of a new appreciation experience for traditional performing arts
Respecting the physicality that Kabuki has cultivated over its long history, Shochiku aims to present stage productions that fuse the recorded images of actors with contemporary performances. They will also work on a record archive of physical expression so that contemporary performances will be an asset for future generations. They also plan to develop new performances that are not bound by conventional ways of viewing the stage, but allow the audience to immerse themselves in the world of the story.
Barbican Centre:Sessions withone of Europe’s largest cultural complexes
The company will collaborate with the Barbican Centre, a cultural complex in London, to create innovative content that is inclusive of diverse cultures. Collaboration and concept-making for the creation of new culture will be carried out together, and exhibitions and events that transcend the boundaries of media and genres will be jointly planned.
Aomori Museum of Art:New developments in art using technology:
The works on display at the Aomori Museum of Art will be dynamically reconstructed using Box1000 large LEDs to create a new, scaled-up version of the artwork. In addition, the museum will develop programs that can travel to cultural centers throughout Japan, including tour programs that bring audiences to local regions through the contents presented by MoN Takanawa.

MoN Takanawa has a vast exhibition space of approximately 1,500 m2, a theater space with LED panels on the entire stage, approximately 100 tatami mats, and three terraces where visitors can enjoy footbaths, moon-watching, and hanami, as well as a restaurant, cafe, and public space where visitors can sit freely. The Takanawa Gateway is expected to be a hot spot in 2026, attracting many visitors from both Japan and abroad.
