“MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives,” a museum dedicated to creating and promoting Japanese culture, will open at Takanawa Gateway Station on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives
“MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives” is a museum that creates and disseminates new Japanese culture through narratives. Twice a year, it will present programs that fuse Japanese tradition, learning, entertainment, and technology under themes that connect to the future.
The acronym “MoN,” which can be translated as “Museum of Narratives,” carries two meanings: “gate” and “question.” First, it serves as a gateway connecting diverse fields, allowing visitors to encounter unknown worlds and discover new aspects of themselves. Second, it embodies the desire to be a place where we pose “questions” and work together to create the future.
Starting on the opening day, Saturday, March 28, the museum will host “The Spiral Exhibition—The Story of Humanity’s Continuous Evolution,” an intellectual entertainment experience that explores the mysteries of the countless “spirals” found throughout the world. Beginning Wednesday, April 22, the theater-style manga live performance “MANGALOGUE: Phoenix” will take place.

The various programs taking place at MoN Takanawa

At MoN Takanawa, we aim to achieve “the development of new Japanese-originated content that transcends industry boundaries and combines the strengths of both sides,” “the expansion of new business models and networks, including touring and streaming,” and “the realization of a dual focus on cultural and economic activities” in collaboration with the following domestic and international partners.
Shochiku:Creating New Ways to Experience Traditional Performing Arts
Respecting the physicality cultivated by Kabuki over its long history, Shochiku aims to stage productions that fuse archival footage of actors with contemporary performances. The company also plans to build an archive of physical performance records to ensure that these contemporary performances become a legacy for future generations. Furthermore, Shochiku intends to develop new performances that allow audiences to immerse themselves in the world of the story, breaking free from conventional methods of stage appreciation.
Barbican Centre:Collaboration withEurope’s Largest Cultural Complex
Through collaboration with London’s Barbican Centre, a cultural complex, we will produce innovative content that embraces diverse cultures. We will work together on collaborations and concept development for new cultural creation, and jointly plan exhibitions and events that transcend the boundaries of media and genres.
Aomori Museum of Art:New Developments in Art Using Technology:
We dynamically reconstruct works exhibited at the Aomori Museum of Art using Box1000’s large-scale LED screens, presenting them as newly staged, scaled-up installations. Additionally, we are developing a program that allows these works to tour cultural hubs across Japan, and we are organizing tour initiatives that encourage audiences to visit regional areas through content curated by MoN Takanawa.

MoN Takanawa features a vast exhibition space of approximately 1,500 square meters, a theater space with LED panels covering the entire stage, about 100 tatami mats, and three terraces where visitors can enjoy foot baths, moon viewing, and cherry blossom viewing. It is also fully equipped with restaurants, cafes, and public spaces where visitors can sit freely. As a hotspot to watch in 2026, it is expected to attract many visitors from both Japan and abroad.
