Free Admission for Students! Must-See Discounts and Perks
One of the highlights of this event is the discounted admission rates available after 5:00 PM. Students (including college students, graduate students, vocational school students, and high school students) can view participating exhibitions for free. In addition, special discounts equivalent to group rates are available for the general public and visitors aged 65 and older.
Furthermore, the museum shop, cafes, and restaurants located within the museum offer a variety of special nighttime perks, such as limited-edition gifts and discounts on food and drinks for visits after 5:00 PM.
Six Participating Metropolitan Cultural Facilities
This year’s program includes the following six Tokyo Metropolitan facilities. Visitors can enjoy a variety of fascinating exhibitions at each venue until late at night.
1. Edo-Tokyo Museum (Ryogoku), Tokyo
Exhibitions during the event period include the permanent collection, the Edo-Tokyo Museum Renovation Commemorative Special Exhibition “Western-Style Buildings: Dreams and Challenges of the Meiji Era,” and “An Invitation to the Floating World—Edo-Tokyo Museum × Idemitsu Collection: First Joint Exhibition.” Video projection events will also be held on the 3rd floor at the Edo- Tokyo Hiroba.
2. Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (Ueno)
In addition to a special exhibition commemorating the museum’s 100th anniversary, there is a rich lineup of must-see exhibits, such as “The British Museum’s Collection of Japanese Art.” The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is open until 8:00 p.m.
3. Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum (Meguro/Shirokanedai)
The exhibition running during this period is “Lucy Lee: Elegant Vessels Bridging East and West.” Your exhibition ticket also grants you access to the garden after dark. On Friday, August 28, the “Summer Night Market” will also be held in the garden.
4. Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (Ebisu)
Exhibitions during the event period include “Mako Idemitsu: Works by a Woman—The Autobiography of a Filmmaker,” “TOP Collection: Tomorrow’s Dining Table,” and the Nikon Small World / NIKON JOICO AWARD Exhibition, “The Microscopic World—Illuminating the Future of Life.” The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography will be open in the evenings not only on Fridays but also on Thursdays.
5. Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (Kiyosumi-Shirakawa)
The exhibition running during this period is “MOT Collection: First Encounters with Art.” A mini-concert will also be held on Friday, August 7.
6, Shibuya Park Street Gallery, Tokyo (Shibuya)
The exhibition running during this period is titled “Listening to the Voice of the Heart: The Art of Living as Myself.” On Friday, August 21, a “Slightly Late Gallery Talk” will be held, making it easy to attend even after work.
“Museum × Music!”—A Collaboration Between Art Museums and Music
Along with the museum exhibits, be sure to check out “Museum × Music!,” a series of mini-concerts held in collaboration with the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre. Taking place in front of exhibition rooms and in entrance halls at each venue, winners of the “Tokyo Music Competition” and up-and-coming young musicians will perform live classical music and other genres.
No advance registration is required; for just the admission fee (or free of charge), you can casually enjoy this collaboration of music and art.
Summer Night Museum 2026
📅Every Friday from Thursday, August 6, 2026, to Friday, August 28, 2026 (*The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography is open on Thursdays and Fridays. Dates may vary by facility.)
⏰ 5:00 PM–9:00 PM (*The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum closes at 8:00 PM. Admission closes 30 minutes before closing time, except at the Shibuya Park Street Gallery.)
