Occupying that sweet spot when hunger strikes between breakfast and lunch, brunch is as popular as a social occasion as it is a meal. Whether you’re hoping for something sweet, or a savoury dish to fill you up, these Tokyo brunch restaurants are the ideal choice.
1. No. (Yoyogi Uehara)
No. gets a yes from us! Relocated and reopened in June 2023 at CABO, a small complex located a short walk from Yoyogi-Uehara Station, this minimally-decorated spot is known for coffee, cocktails, and brunch. For breakfast or brunch, we recommend the croissants and cinnamon rolls they source from plat, a croissant specialty store in Sangenjaya. Stay into the evening, and cocktails become the main focus.
3F, 1-33-11 Uehara, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
2. DAY & NIGHT (Hiroo)
As the name suggests, DAY & NIGHT changes throughout the day, starting with breakfasts in the morning and gradually transitioning to drinks for when night comes. If you like things sweet, the pancakes will prove why they’re a brunch favourite, whilst the savoury sandwiches – filled with the likes of pulled pork or Philly cheesesteak – are a great option too.
2-39-5 Ebisu, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
3. Breakfast Club (Ikejiri-Ohashi, Nakameguro)
You’ll feel like you’ve strayed from Tokyo to retro America when you step into this all-day breakfast eatery, which feels as if it’s been modelled on a classic US diner. There are plenty of options to satisfy your hunger, but we’d recommend the Breakfast Club set.
2-2-4 Higashiyama, Meguro-ku, Tokyo
4. Heavenly Island Lifestyle (Daikan-yama)
Made in Hawaii but open in Tokyo too, Heavenly Island Lifestyle is an all-day dining restaurant that can satisfy your brunch urges. The fluffy French toast comes highly recommended, so if you’ve got a sweet tooth, that’s what you’ll want to order.
2F Daikanyama Plaza, 24-7 Sarugaku-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
5. Breakfast & Brunch Jade5 (Hiroo)
Tuck into the Lumberjack breakfast, where salty bacon meets sweet syrup. This pet-friendly restaurant is known for both breakfast and brunch, and the owner previously worked at the American Embassy café so you can be sure they know their brunch dishes well.
5-17-6 Hiroo, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
6. BUY ME STAND (Shibuya)
The retro American atmosphere of this sandwich store, which is frequently used as a photo shoot location for fashion magazines, makes it popular with visitors. The most popular sandwich, “Apple Cheeks”, is filled with pork, cheese, and thinly sliced fresh apples, and its volume and sweetness are addictive.
202, Mansion Namikibashi, 1-31-19 Higashi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
7. IVY PLACE (Daikan-yama)
A homely restaurant consisting of three spaces: a café, dining room, and bar. For brunch, we recommend the classic pancake plate with juicy sausage, homemade smoked bacon and your favourite egg dish. When the weather is nice, you’re invited to dine and relax on the restaurant’s terrace.
16-15 Sarugaku-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
8. bricolage bread and co. (Roppongi)
A bakery-café created through a tasty collaboration between the restaurant L’Effervescence, the bakery Le Sucre-Coeur, and the coffee shop Fuglen Tokyo. The outdoor terrace is highly recommended during cherry blossom season, if you can get a seat.
Keyakizaka Terrace 1F, 6-15-1 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo
