As part of the regional collaboration program for the international festival Ebisu Film Festival 2026 “Your Sound | Sun-Bathed Voices | Polyphonic Voices Bathed in Sunlight,” which runs from Friday, February 6 and presents a cross-section of contemporary visual culture and art, a special exhibition by Manbou Key titled “Under A Void | 空隙之下” will be held in the Ebisu Underground Food Court.
Featuring works focusing on drag queen performance artists
Mambo Key is an artist based in Taipei, Taiwan. Using photography, video, music, and installation as primary media, their work explores themes of family memory and identity.
In the 2022 exhibition “Home Pleasure,” the theme expanded from family narratives to transgender and marginalized identities, deepening the connection to Taiwan’s queer culture. That same year, Mambo Key co-founded the HomoPleasure Collective to explore the relationship between art and party culture.
In 2025, she held the solo exhibition Home Pleasure at PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO and published her first autobiographical photo book of the same name in Japan.
Set in the underground space, which embodies anonymity and polyphony, this exhibition deeply resonates with the overarching theme of Ebisu Film Festival 2026: “Diverse Voices Resonate Together.”
For this project, Manbou presents a selection of works created from 2019 to the present, focusing on drag queen performance artists who have cultivated relationships of mutual aid and solidarity within the queer community.
Featured individuals include Nymphia, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Marian, protagonist of a Taiwanese short film depicting drag culture.
