To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tamagotchi, “The Great Tamagotchi Exhibition” will be held at the Roppongi Museum from January 7 (Wed.) to February 2 (Mon.).
Experience as if you were inside a Tamagotchi
The “Great Tamagotchi Exhibition” is a commemorative exhibition that not only looks back over the past 30 years, but also delves deeply into the charm of Tamagotchi, a cute and wacky creature, through an experience that makes you feel as if you have stepped inside Tam agotchi.
The portable digital pet “Tamagotchi” released by Bandai in 1996 became a huge boom, especially among high school girls at that time, and caused a social phenomenon in Japan and abroad. Since then, a total of 38 models have been sold to meet the needs of the times, including models with infrared communication (2004), color LCD (2008), touch LCD (2021), and Wi-Fi functionality (2023).
Currently available in more than 50 regions, the cumulative total of shipments in Japan and overseas exceeded 100 million units on July 31, 2025.
At the “Grand Tamagotchi Exhibition,” there is a “Window Room” where visitors can look through an LCD window from inside the Tamagotchi device and observe the scenery the Tamagotchi normally see and the changes of the times in the outside world, “Tamagotchi’s Life” where visitors can see the rooms where Mamecchi, Kuchipacchi, and Mimichchi live, and “Growth Room” where visitors can experience growing up as Tamagotchi. The “Growth Room,” where you can experience growing up as a Tamagotchi, and the “Survival Strategy Room,” which monitors Tamagotchis and their owners around the world.
In addition, the first generation “Tamagotchi” and “Discover a New Kind of Tamagotchi! Original Tamagotchi” series, the Western version of the original “Tamagotchi” and “New Species Discovery!
