Outdoor artworks by five artists from Japan and abroad are dotted throughout the Railway District
Luke Gerram’s “Museum of the Moon, ” the event’s signature piece, is a spherical installation approximately 7 meters in diameter created using NASA lunar images, which will be installed on a vacant lot in the Shimokitazawa Railway District.
Hiroma Kishi and Tatsuya Takemori have installed “Botanical Intelligence: Moon Edition” at NANSEI PLUS, an installation featuring small edge devices that convert plants’ biological data into sound and light.
Masahide Matsuda will present “The Big Flat Now”—a physical manifestation of the world’s most-used emoji, the “laughing-crying” face, in the form of an approximately 8-meter-tall balloon—in the parking lot adjacent to BONUS TRACK.
“Cat Town,” the immersive theater experienced by 1,800 people last year, will feature English guidance this year
“Nekomachi,” an immersive theater production inspired by the representative works of modern poet Sakutaro Hagiwara, is an experiential play set throughout the streets from in front of Shimokitazawa Station to the area around Setagaya-Daita Station.
Audience members wearing headphones will walk through the city—including railway facilities normally off-limits to the public—while immersing themselves in a fantastical story. Last year, approximately 1,800 people attended, and this year, English guidance has been added to accommodate visitors from overseas.
First-Ever Interactive Choral Event to Mark the Mid-Autumn Full Moon
On Friday, September 25—the day of the Mid-Autumn Full Moon— the interactive choral event “Singing ‘Moonlight’ Under the Moon” will be held for the first time at the “Shimokita Railway Street Vacant Lot.” Local residents and visitors will sing the official theme song “Moonlight,” written specifically for the event by artist Manatsu Nagahara, who is active in the Shimokita area, under the giant moon art installation.
The NFT digital stamp rally will also continue
Continuing from last year, a digital stamp rally utilizing Startrail will be held. By scanning a QR code at participating stores, participants can earn a unique NFT for each store as a digital stamp—a system designed to encourage exploration of the neighborhood.
