3, Exhibition “Tapio Vilkara: The End of the World” (April 5 – June 15)
The first retrospective exhibition in Japan of Tapio Vilkkala (1915-1985), an overwhelming presence in the world of Finnish modern design, will be held at Tokyo Station Gallery from April 5. In addition to glass, Vilkkala’s design field encompassed porcelain, silverware, jewelry, lighting, furniture, graphics, and space. The exhibition will feature approximately 300 works, as well as photographs and drawings (reproductions), and will explore Vilkkala’s delicate and dynamic appeal as a designer, sculptor, and formative artist.

4, Exhibition “The Miracle of Black: The Secrets of Yohantenmoku” (April 5-June 22)
Yohantenmoku, a treasure of oriental ceramics made in China in the 12th and 13th centuries, and of which only three pieces are known to exist in the world, all of which have been transmitted to Japan. In addition to the enigmatic beauty of the iridescent colors floating on the jet-black glaze that continues to fascinate people to this day, it also holds a variety of mysteries regarding its production method and transmission. This exhibition introduces iron crafts called “Kurotetsu Kurogane” (black iron), such as swords and iron sword mounts, and “Jikkuro” lacquer crafts under the theme of the black color of crafts.

From April 12, an exhibition of swords from the Mitsui Memorial Museum collection, including two National Treasures, “Hyuga Masamune” and “Tokuzenin Sadamune,” as well as seven other important cultural properties, and maki-e maki-e decorations will be on display. 6, Exhibition “PARALLEL MODE: Odilon Redon – Dream of Light, Brilliance of Shadow” (April 12 – June 22)
Approximately 110 works by Odilon Redon (1840-1916) will be on view at the Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art, mainly from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Gifu, one of the best in the world, plus other masterpieces from Japan and abroad. His artwork was transformed as if in parallel with changes in social structure due to technological innovation and the birth of new artistic trends such as Impressionism, and his art, with its brilliance created by light and shadow, still attracts many people today.

The “Design Ah Exhibition neo” is an exhibition at TOKYO NODE GALLERY that develops the concept of the NHK E-television program “Design Ah neo” into a place where visitors can experience it. 9, Special Exhibition “Tsutaya Shigesaburo, a Fudosan of Contents Business” (April 22-June 15)
Tsutaya Shigsaburo (1750~97), an outstanding publisher of the Edo period, is famous for having introduced to the world ukiyoe artists such as Kitagawa Utamaro and Toshusai Sharaku, who are now considered world-class artists. This exhibition focuses on the activities of Tsutaju, while also presenting the diverse culture of Edo, mainly during the Temmei and Kansei periods (1781-1801). The exhibition will also be linked to the 2025 historical drama series “Bebo – Tsutashige Eika no Yume Banashi” (NHK), which will feature Shigezaburo Tsutaya, and will show the publishing activities of Tsutashige as well as the aspects of the city of Edo.
