Tokyo was ranked 4th out of 100 cities in the annual ranking of ” The World’s Best Cities ” by Resonance Consultancy, which specializes in marketing in the real estate and tourism sectors, following London (1st place for 9 consecutive years), Paris (2nd place), and New York (3rd place). Tokyo was ranked 4th out of 100 cities, following London (1st for 9 consecutive years), Paris (2nd), and New York (3rd).
In the ranking, Tokyo is presented as follows
No. 4, Tokyo
Despite being located in a country that has been hit by earthquakes, tsunamis, and typhoons, Tokyo has long ranked high as one of the world’s most livable metropolises. The sight of children going to school without parents or playing freely outside is difficult for foreign visitors to comprehend, but after the pandemic, it has once again become an everyday sight in Tokyo.
The fact that the pandemic coincided with the Tokyo Olympics can only be described as bad luck. The tens of billions spent on infrastructure to welcome so many people from around the world is a liability that will plague Tokyo for years to come.
At best, the 2,000 hotels and inns and dozens of shopping complexes that opened during the pandemic are better prepared to welcome tourists again than any other city in the world.

The Japanese government has set a goal of 60 million tourists and $136 billion in tourism revenue by 2030. This figure would not be unrealistic.
For the seventh consecutive year, the number of tourists has reached a record high. By 2031, Haneda Airport’s international terminal (ranked 38th in the world) will be expanded and a railroad line will be constructed to connect the city center in 18 minutes.
Tokyo ranked first as a “shoppin’ spot” city because of its many shopping destinations, including the high-end Ginza department store and GINZA SIX, a sharply designed shopping center decorated with art.
In 2020, the newly renovated MIYASHITA PARK will feature 90 stores and restaurants, and a new hotel overlooking the Shibuya district, complete with volleyball courts and a 2.5-acre skate park.
Toranomon Hills and Azabudai Hills, which will open in November 2023, will accommodate more than 20,000 employees. It could be called a vertical city within Tokyo.
The first through tenth places are as follows.
- London
- Paris (France)
- New York

- Singapore
