From Thursday, February 5 to Wednesday, February 11 (holiday), the projection mapping event “TAKANAWA LIGHT JOURNEY” will be held at “Gateway Park” in front of Takanawa Gateway Station.
Takanawa Gateway City’s First Projection Mapping
“TAKANAWA LIGHT JOURNEY” expresses the past, present, and future of the Takanawa area. The venue will feature two projected works: ‘Memory Voyage of Light – Time Voyage’, which uses light to traverse Takanawa’s memories, and ‘The TAKANAWA’, which artistically expresses present-day Takanawa using actual “sounds” and “images” from the area.
Additionally, during intermissions, the “LUMINOUS GATEWAY” light corridor will be deployed to create a three-dimensional atmosphere throughout the venue, enhancing each program.
Work ①: ‘Time Voyage – A Journey Through Light and Memory’
A journey through time and space tracing the history and memories accumulated in this place—from approximately 150 years ago when Japan’s first railway ran over the sea, to the present, and into the future 100 years from now. One day, a ticket arrives, and a journey through Takanawa’s history and the evolution of mobility begins.
This journey is staged through a three-dimensional spatial expression that combines projection mapping using special advanced technology where images move, synchronized with the venue’s fountains.
Work ②: ‘The TAKANAWA’ – Immerse yourself in music born from the everyday sounds of Takanawa and grand visuals
A new work that layers Takanawa’s ambient sounds, blending into daily life, and depicts Takanawa in three dimensions through the interplay of music, visuals, light, and space. It invites you to rediscover this place, which has accumulated history alongside the sounds born from human activity, culture, and technological development, ensuring it remains here for the next 100 years.
Spatial Content:‘LUMINOUS GATEWAY’ –A fantastical corridor woven by light, creating a three-dimensional performance throughout the venue.
A corridor of light drifting through Takanawa, woven from light and smoke. It not only creates a three-dimensional presentation of the work but transforms the very path itself into an experience. This piece, where the light changes its expression with every step, lends new depth to the landscape of Takanawa.
Takanawa once faced the sea. During the Edo period, the Takanawa Great Gate was established, making it a bustling hub for travelers . Approximately 150 years ago , when Japan’s first railway opened , it was also a place of innovation— combining Western and Japanese technology to build an embankment over the sea for the railway to run upon. When you envision Takanawa’s past, present, and future, the projection mapping will appear distinct from anything else.
